Expanding Your Tone Palette
The focus for this class: Varying your sound to match the music while maintaining your core sound.
Points to consider:
- Why would you want to change your sound? To match the musical mood of a piece or at any given point in a piece. It’s not changing your core sound, but adding a specific color or energy to enhance the music.
- Does your change with the dynamics? You can maintain your core sound at soft and loud dynamic levels.
- The core of your sound is in the 3 actions: place, play, follow through .
- What are some types of articulation to include in your tone repertoire?
- What about special harp effects?
- For any given piece, what is the overall energy or mood you want to convey to a listener? What tools do you have available to do that?
For this class, we are using Petite Berceuse by Hasselmans as an example.
